Abstract The estimated population of Pakistan is approximately 225,633,392 (225 million). The healthcare delivery system of Pakistan is complex because it includes healthcare subsystems operated by both the federal government and the provincial government. In Pakistan β-thalassemia (β-thal) trait frequency ranges between 5.0-7.0%, thus, there are more than 10 million carriers in the country; and every year, around 5000 children are diagnosed to carry β-thal major (β-TM) in Pakistan. No standard management protocols exist and blood transfusion remains the mainstay of management. Most of the population belong to the lower socioeconomic strata, family units are large and therefore cannot afford to pay for treatment and management of their thalassemic child. Introduction Thalassemia  are inherited  blood disorders  that result in abnormal  hemoglobin . [7]  Symptoms depend on the type of thalassemia and can vary from none to severe. [1]  Often there is mild to severe  anemia  (low  red blood cells  or hemoglobin) as thalassemia can affect the production of red blood cells and also affect how long the red blood cells live. [1]  Symptoms of anemia include feeling  tired  and having  pale skin . [1]  Other symptoms of thalassemia include bone problems, an  enlarged spleen ,  yellowish skin ,  pulmonary hypertension , and dark urine. [1]  Slow growth may occur in children. Deepak Maheshwari, speaking about the facilities provided to thalassemia children in Mehran Thalassemia Center, said that Mehran Thalassemia Center is providing quality and better facilities to these children despite its very few and limited resources. City Councilor Karachi, Deepa k, Maheshwari appealed to the philanthropists on this occasion and requested to help Mehran Thalesia Center as much as possible so that these children can get better treatment facilities.
